Financial Support:

Marissa believes that no one should have to go without music lessons if they are restricted by financial difficulties.  Please do not hesitate to contact Marissa to inquire about financial aid.

Registration:

Enrolment Fees for students attending individual lessons:  An annual Enrollment Fee of $25 is due at registration and is valid until the end of Marissa Kitson's Fiscal Year (August 1st—July 31st). This fee is non-refundable and funds the costs of recitals and student resources.

*No enrolment fees are required when registering for Clinics, Jams, Summer lessons, or Camps.

Registration Paperwork:  Although you can complete much of the registration process online, a person is not fully enrolled until they have completed their paperwork and paid all pending fees. We will not reserve your lesson time until your enrolment and registration fees are paid in full.

Private Lessons: Students may enroll in private lessons at any time of the year. Fees are prorated for the semester.

Group Lessons & Ensembles:  Registration for group classes and ensembles must be completed at least one week before participation begins.

Group lessons require a minimum number of participants; if the minimum enrolment is not met, the class will be cancelled. In this instance, enrollees will be notified one week in advance and will receive a full refund.

A student may still be permitted to enroll in a group class past the enrolment deadline if space is still available and is approved by the teacher.

Payment Policies:

Individual Lessons: Fees are calculated for the school year (September - June) and will fluctuate depending on the length and number of lessons. You are not billed for lessons missed during Winter Vacation and Spring Break or any stat holiday; these lessons are not included in the number of classes in the semester.

The following payment options are available:

Option 1: Students may pay by semester with e-Transfer, Visa, Mastercard, Apple Pay, and Google Pay. Fees are due by September 1st, 2024, for the Fall Semester and February 1st, 2025, for the Spring Semester. * A 10% discount will be applied to any account that chooses to pay by semester.

Option 2: Tuition can be divided into equal monthly installments due on the first day of every month.

Single Semester Ensembles and Group Lessons: Fees are due when you register for the course. They are calculated by the number and length of classes per semester and may include a fee for lesson materials.

Attendance and Missed Lessons:

Individual Lessons:  Your lesson time, mutually agreed upon during registration, will be yours unless another agreement is made. This lesson time is yours only, and you will be responsible for attending this time slot.

In the case of a Teacher's Absence: We can provide an alternate instructor, reschedule the lesson, or credit the student's lesson fees to their next invoice.

If you are not able to attend your private lesson, the following options are available:

  • If the student provides 24 hours' notice, an alternate lesson time may be scheduled. However, due to limited room availability, we cannot guarantee an in-person make-up lesson. * All make-up lessons are valid for one month only.

  • The teacher can use that time to provide an instructional video and other practice materials to assist the students with their practice. This would be set up as a virtual lesson, catering to that specific student only, recorded and sent during their regular lesson time.

  • Students can record the pieces they are working on, and their teacher can watch and respond through video during their regular lesson time. *Please note that the teacher needs to receive the video the day before your lesson so they can review it during your regular lesson time.

  • Students who cannot attend a lesson due to illness or transportation challenges may attend online during their regularly scheduled lesson time.

Group Lessons: We will provide a substitute instructor for Teacher Absence.

Inclement Weather:

In the event of an Academy Closure due to inclement weather, students may attend lessons online from their homes during their regularly scheduled lesson time.

We're committed to keeping you informed. In the event of an Academy Closure due to inclement weather, we'll post the information on your Student Community Page, our website, and social media and email you. This way, you'll always be informed about any changes to your lessons.

Holiday Hours:

Ocean Opus is closed for Winter and Spring Vacation, and students will not be billed for these holiday days.

Withdrawals:

Individual lessons:  We require one month (28 calendar days) written notification of withdrawal. This is to ensure that another student can fill the lesson time.

Group lessons, ensembles, and workshops: Require a minimum number of participants. If the minimum registration is not met, participants will be notified one week in advance and will receive a full refund.

An 80% refund will be given if the participant chooses to withdraw two weeks before the start of the session; no refund will be given if a student cancels later than one week in advance. Full refunds will only be given if the class is cancelled and will be refunded in full one week before the class was originally scheduled.

Summer Programs:

Registration: Registration is complete once a student has completed all applicable paperwork and paid in full. All summer programs have minimum enrollment requirements that must be met for the program to occur. If you have registered for a program that does not meet its minimum enrollment, the student will be notified one week before the program starts. In this event, any fees paid will be fully refunded.

Withdrawals: All summer programs require a minimum number of participants. If the minimum registration is not met, participants will be notified two weeks in advance and will receive a full refund.

An 80% refund will be given if the participant chooses to withdraw two weeks before the start of the session. Refunds will only be given if the class is cancelled and will be done at least two weeks before the start of the session.
